Marion High School Visits WashU Classics (Again!)

Students from Marion High School’s Latin classes spent the day exploring the ancient world—both in the museum and on campus. After visiting the Saint Louis Art Museum, the group traveled to Washington University, where they were welcomed by the Department of Classics.

During their visit, the students experienced the wonder of Ancient Greek pottery with Art History and Archaeology PhD student Mo Stein. They also heard  Senior Lecturer Rebecca Sears present on the Odyssey—both Homer's and Christopher Nolan's—and discussed the power of Odysseus's tale and its transformation from oral poem to film epic.

The visit offered students a taste of what it means to study the ancient world at the university level through a combination of ancient art, archaic poetry, and how the two can still have meaning in our modern world.
