The John and Penelope Biggs Department of Classics and WashU Arts & Sciences’ Humanities Digital Workshop are proud to announce the publication on the Internet Archive of two new databases:
- “Images of Ancient Music” includes photos of over 800 extant instruments and works of art showing the music and dance of ancient Greece and Rome, as well as other images related to the ancient Mediterranean world and its influence.
- “Recordings of Greek and Latin” consists primarily of recordings of passages from Greek and Latin literature read aloud by faculty and students of the Department of Classics at the University of Texas at Austin in the 1960s and 1970s. Also included are various other recordings related to ancient Greece and Rome.
Both databases can be found on the new Internet Archive Department of Classics Collection. They are the work the work of Principal Investigator Timothy Moore, John and Penelope Biggs Distinguished Professor of Classics; student interns Sophie Hsu, Jackie Clay, Carolyn Pohl, Jin Lee, Jordan Coley, Supria Ajjampore, and Max Delgado; and members of the Humanities Digital Workshop, the WashU Libraries, and the Department of Classics and Liberal Arts Instructional Technology Services at the University of Texas at Austin.
